Hello, I have an Acer Nitro 5 (i5-10300H | 1650Ti variant). I have not done anything to the drivers or downloaded anything that could possibly change display settings, but while I was simply using my laptop to type a document, I noticed the bottom line of pixels started to flicker. My first thought was that my display was broken, but after troubleshooting deeper I realized that in task manager screen or on the screen you get when shutting down/restarting, it didn't appear. I am now assuming that it isn't the display that's broken but rather something in the software (but like I said above, I did not install or modify anything it just suddenly appeared).

Here's a list of where the flicker appears:
- Desktop
- Any third party application that's open
- It appears on the BIOS
- It still appears in Safe Mode

The only place it does not appear is the aforementioned task manager screen.

The flicker is also dependent on what is currently displayed on the screen. When the screen is displaying mostly black (like when I have settings open with dark mode enabled), the flickering lessens or in some cases even disappears. It's the most obvious when white or lighter colors are dominating the screen (e.g. my desktop, or in MS Word).

I've already did a clean reinstall (uninstall then clean install) of my graphics drivers (both Intel and Nvidia). That, combined with the fact that it still appears in BIOS and Safe Mode, made me think it's not related to the graphics drivers, although that's with my unprofessional opinion.

I have attached two pictures below (since I couldn't seem to attach a video), the first one shows clearly the abnormal line of pixels on the bottom, while the 2nd one I took a few seconds later when I went to task manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL). As you can see the line of pixels is not there.

Right now, it's more of an annoyance than anything, since I can still perfectly use my laptop with no problem. But I am still very much keen to trying to get it fixed. I'm writing this just in case someone here with experience is able to help me out before I do the last resort and just reset this laptop (which I really don't want to do anytime soon.)

Thanks for the help!

There may be several reasons for your laptop screen flickering:

    • Loose or damaged cable connection: A faulty cable connecting the screen to the motherboard may cause flickering.
    • Outdated or incompatible drivers: If your computer’s display drivers are outdated or incompatible, it may lead to screen flickering issues.
    • Faulty screen or hardware: A faulty screen or internal hardware component can also cause flickering.
    • Overheating: Overheating the laptop can cause the screen flickering issue.
    • Software issues: Some software or apps may cause some problems, leading to screen flickering.
    • Incorrect refresh rate: An incorrect refresh rate setting may also result in a flickering screen issue.

You can start by checking your HDMI, Display-Port, or USB-C cables. Ensure that the cables are securely connected to both the monitor and the laptop. Make sure that the cable is fully tightened and it doesn’t look
or feel loose. This applies to all cable types, which can become loose for various reasons. Plug in your system to an external monitor to check if the issue reoccurs. If the problem does not occur on the external
display, it may be due to a hardware issue with the laptop’s screen.

Next is to make sure that the graphic card driver is update. Outdated drivers may cause incompatibility, leading to screen flickering problems. Regularly updating drivers ensures optimal performance and a
    flicker-free experience.

Also to note overheating can cause hardware issues so, routinely check your laptop’s temperature to
ensure it is not overheating. Make sure you clean any dust or debris from the vents and fans to improve airflow.
