Aspire 5 Extended warranty vs Save towards next laptop

Hi all, just pondering here, and definitely not expecting any definitive answer!

My Aspire 5 laptop, which is great, is just coming up to one year old, so is about to pass beyond the manufacturer warranty. The retailer here in UK, Currys, have just been in touch and offered one year further cover - repair or replace - for about 1/7 of the price of a new laptop.

My own inclination is to keep the money and gamble (such insurance is basically a gamble, after all) that the Aspire 5 will actually keep going fine for a fair while longer so by the time I need to replace it I'll be spending a similar amount, relative to inflation etc, for a higher spec.

What's the Community feeling on such a quandary, and is there any resource re general longevity of modern gear?

Curry's Extended Warranty is through them only and not associated with Acer. They make money on these types of "Warranties" by the incredibly small failure rate so you pay and they never have to pay out (rarely) its a scam. This is the same at Best Buy in the US. Treat you Laptop right and it will still be Usable for many years to come. I just bought a 16 year old Acer Aspire 7520 and a 5520 on Ebay and they both still work fine and can even run Windows 10 and or Linux for basic tasks like web browsing and Email.

Thanks for your input, KJN9000000.. that's kinda what I was thinking. In the meantime I've just found the link on here to Acer's own extended warranty with more years for less money. More incline to that, but still sitting on my hands!
