How do I highlight text using the trackpad on my new Spin 314 (CP314-1HN)?

I cannot work out how to highlight text on-screen with the trackpad of my new CP314-1HN so that I can copy, paste or delete it. The problem is not with using the Ctrl-C/X/P command - I can copy/paste fine with a mouse. And it's not a fault with the trackpad since I can scroll, zoom, double-click, left and right-click etc etc with the trackpad. I can even highlight a single word or paragraph by clicking/double-clicking with the trackpad, but I cannot work out how to highlight text by clicking and dragging on the trackpad.

I've seen a technique demonstrated on YouTube, on an Acer Chromebook. This involves clicking on one end point then holding down with one finger while dragging with another finger to extend the selection but this never works for me - no text is ever selected.

Is this a software issue, something in settings, or just a failure on my part to grasp the correct technique? Thanks in advance.
