I use this laptop for 3D and 2D technical drawings, I've replaced the 500 GB HDD for the main drive with a 1 TB SSD and upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 14 GB. All my apps are on the SSD and files on a second HDD which syncs with a cloud. The drawing program can only run on the NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics card. From a performance and quality perspective is it better to run all the programs on the NVIDIA graphics card or just the drawing program? The other graphics card is an Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000 card.

The Nvidia card will kill the battery faster but running Office and web browsing should default to the intel card automatically.

Thanks for your help! I'm not concerned about the battery life, besides which I've got an inverter that can keep the essentials in the building running for up to six hours, which we unfortunately need in Africa!

To rephrase then, I'm concerned about the impact of the settings on overall operating speed and the rendering capability of the drawing program. Having fiddled with the NVIDIA settings and setting it as the default card, I've had no crashes and I'm able to render models that I couldn't before. Can I allocate more memory to the NVIDIA card?

DDR3 1066MT/s Non-ECC Unbuffered SODIMM CL7 2RX8 1.5V 204-pin 2Gbit, 16 GB max. Ram using a 64-bit Operating System. It is recommended you install identical modules in pairs for Dual-channel performance. You have now 4 slots (2 banks of 2) SODIMMs 4-4-4-2GB? Better install 16GB 4x4GB (maximum RAM). No comments on the GPU.

Just some further advice for you, imo the first upgrade that you should do for this laptop to run your 2D and 3D tech drawings software better and quicker is to upgrade the hardware and that is the ram of this laptops to its max 16GB @ 4x 4GB DDR3-1333Mhz type ram and upgrade this laptops highest oem cpu that Acer fitted to this laptop the i7-2820QM type cpu, as this cpu will also assist in increasing the performance of your laptop. The 2x 2.5" hard drives that you have are just fine, as the 2.5" SSD SATA-3 6GB/s will operate within this laptop at SATA-2 3GB/s anyway as that is the max speed that this laptop's drives operate at. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Also, the Aspire Ethos 8951G can't have 14GB of ram, where did you get that combination from? The below memory specs and tables are this laptop Acer oen memory SG specs and combinations into this laptops 4x memory slots and its 2x 2.5" SATA 2 @ 3GB/s type drive spaces.

Memory modules tyepes suitable for this laptop

The Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G with an Intel Core i7 processor can indeed be upgraded in terms of RAM. Here are some details:

A user from the Acer Community reported that they upgraded the RAM from 8GB to 14GB1. They also replaced the 500GB HDD with a 1TB SSD for the main drive1.
According to Crucial, a trusted source for compatible memory and storage upgrades, the Acer Aspire 8951G-9630 has 4 slots (2 banks of 2) for RAM and supports a maximum of 16GB2.
The user’s experience suggests that the laptop can handle more than the standard 8GB of RAM, which can be beneficial for tasks that require more memory, such as 3D and 2D technical drawings
