Specs: Acer Predator Orion 3000 Gaming Desktop | Intel Core i7-12700F - 16GB RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti - 1TB SSD in Black

I saw today that the RTX 4080 Super released and have a buddy who can set one aside for me. I’m not too knowledgeable on compatibility when it comes to GPU upgrades and am wondering if the swap would even be possible.

The RTX 4080 require at least 3x 8pin PCIe connectors that have a 24pin connector of between 450W or ideally a 650W PSU, and it needs a PCI-Express 5.0 x16 connector. Your PO3-640 has a proprietary 500W 8pin ATX power connector that has 2x 8pin and a PCI-Express 4.0 x16 connector. So, fitting the RTX4080 is not going to be compatible with the PSU or mainboard.

You can upgrade to a new PCI-Express 5.0 x16 mainboard of the same socket cpu and 24pin PSU power plug, and upgrade to a modular PSU of at least 550W-650W PSU which is the PSU recommended for the RTX4080 for adequate overall power. And then you can swap all the components onto the new board or get a new desktop that has an RTX4080 included as that is even a better choice. Good luck.

I wouldn't swap almost everything there is (possibly including the case as well) in order to be able to use 4080S. It's way easier to save some money, sell the current PC as it is, and buy a new one.

I'd recommend you to build a new system from scratch mainly from used components (RAM, mobo, CPU, cooler and case) and save money this way.

Would I be able to downgrade to a 4070 super? I know space requirements might be hard to find one that fits but would the MB/Power supply be able to support that?

Powering the card might be difficult. If you go HERE and do a search, even physically smaller dual fan cards (example ZOTAC RTX 4070 SUPER Twin Edge) tend to need an additional 16-pin PCIe cable. Maybe there are some that take 2 x 6 or 2 x 8-pin, but you need to find them yourself.

If your PSU has two PCIe cables that can be attached to the included adapter, there is a chance it would work. Unfortunately I can't guarantee it will nor that powering up the PC for the first time would not cause catastrophic damage to your PSU, motherboard or 4070s. :(
