I have an Aspire V15 nitro (VN7-591G) that I use primarily as a living room computer connected to tv. I wish to use it with the lid closed and be able to wake on USB without getting up to open the lid. I've seen other similar posts that show a bios setting for exactly this but my bios does not include this setting. I tried updating to the latest version (I had 1.15 and updated to the 1.17 version) but it didn't change the options I had available. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would it be insane to try installing the bios from a different acer laptop that does have this setting?

You should be able to turn off the laptop lid closing doing anything in the software that way it should act more like a desktop with an external display. Set the TV to the Primary display. Turn off Suspend and sleep modes. So when its been unused for some time the screen should go to sleep but the computer should be awake in the background waiting for a input. How to adjust power and sleep settings

    • How to adjust power and sleep settings
To adjust power and sleep settings in Windows 10, go to Start Windows logo Start button, and select Settings Gear-shaped Settings icon > System > Power & sleep.
Under Screen, select how long you want your device to wait before turning the screen off when you're not using your device.
Under Sleep, select how long you want your device to wait before going to sleep when you’re not using it.
For more power saving options, select Additional power settings to change how your device uses power.

Let the screen sleep but not the CPU or operating system

Pressing the Windows key and P should allow you to chose the TV as the main screen.
