I just bought an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57-79TD and went to boot up a game. The frame rates were choppy so on my search to fix them I found that the only display adapters in Device Manager are Microsoft Basic Display Adapters (two of them?). I checked my friend's Nitro 5 and they had completely different adapters, how do I fix this for my own device?

Install NVidia GeForce Experience as this software is like an NVidia driver scanner for the latest drivers and also has over 1500 ultimate game settings to play the major games on the market at their ultimate settings with your NVidia graphics card. When the GeForce experience software downloads the latest NVidia driver for your AN515-57 then you need to install the driver with the custom install > and do a clean install, as this way the NVidia software will completely delete all other NVidia graphics drivers that could corrupt the new version, always install the NVidia drivers this way. Good luck

NVidia install screen, chose the "Perform a clean installation"
