We have upgraded 100’s of laptops at our office for end-users. I have never had issues changing out drives and upgrading RAM. I opened the LAPTOP and pulled the main board to install the 2 x 4TB Predator drives. I always take a picture before and after and upgrade. I double check all connectors before I connect the power again. I am not sure why I can’t get the video to work after upgrading the hard drives. The keyboard lights flash, power is on, just dark display.

Has any one else had issues upgrading the hard drives in the Triton 17X PTX17-71 i9 with the RTX4090? Is their a compatibility issue with the 4TB Predator drives from Acer?

Seems you have to upgrade the firmware first. Or it doesn’t seem to work correctly. If you replace with a new HD be sure to disable secure boot and give it time to register the new disk. it will take like 10 minutes then it reboots and will show the Predator splash.

Do a hard reset by taking the main battery out and disconnect the bios battery and then shorts its +&- plug pins at its plug A, like in the diagram below to reset CMOS,

Then take the ram out and leave the laptop like that for 30min, reconnect everything, as this resets the EC, Chipset and bios chips which could freeze because of the new M.2 SSDs and especially the ram, as with DDR5 you need to wait as stated above for 10min before the new ram registers. Try all that and afterwards update the bios to y=the last version 1.08 for this laptop, as it should work perfectly. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

I suggest that you use a high end Gen 4 x4 lane M.2 SSD like the Samsung 990 Pro NVMe drive as these drives as what you should be using with a high end laptop like your Predator Triton PTX17-71.

Recommended and Acer tested ram modules for this laptop
