Acer support were no help. They claimed the issue was unknown. That clearly isn't so. I installed Free Battery Monitor, which seems to have changed a setting somewhere. Now the Care Centre shows the option as it should.

If this helps someone else, I'd love to know. It was totally unexpected. If it doesn't work for you you have my sympathy. It has happened to me twice now and I've only had my Nitro 5 since November.

I don't recommend that you try to limit draining and charging of your battery to a 40-80% range this works counterproductive for a MOBILE device with a modern Li-Ion battery that has a Smart chip managing power delivery. Both BIOS and Microsoft ACPI require that the battery is fully charged and at least once is discharged to 2% (full charge cycle) to register the capacity of your battery, failing to do so will result in Power issues, and Windows Modern Standby protocol not working properly like failing to wake from sleep or unexpected shutdown. Your mobile device will also be handicapped with only 40% battery power while that should be 98%. All this because you read on a website about the Battery Longevity myth? Browse this forum what the general consensus is about this anecdotal theory. Uninstall Battery Monitor and disable the battery limiting option in Acer Care. 😉
