So, in June, last year, I bought a Nitro 5, and it had overheating issues all the time. I took very good care of it since day one and it was stored constantly in a bag, so it was far from dust. The overheating wasn't as bad at first, but after a while, I started to hear the laptop's fans pushing air out, and the temps started to skyrocket. Realizing that the laptop was running relatively hot, 70-80 degrees during low use operations (30-40ish %), I went to best buy and they completely cleaned and re-pasted the CPU and GPU. Nothing changed, same results. After a while it began running at 75 to 85 degrees at the same usage as before (30-40ish %), and I brought it back to best buy where they again, re-pasted and cleaned the fans/ventilation system. It worked for a week. after that, low usage on the CPU would cause 85 to 95 degrees of heat, at usages in the lower 30%'s. I once again, brought the laptop in, and the Best Buy employee was very surprised to see that if i go anywhere above 30% usage, the laptop is an absolute plane… IN QUIET MODE. I'm in an engineering degree, and trust me when I say loud, I mean that the laptop interrupted a class, and i needed to stop taking notes, and needed to turn off the laptop. which is hilarious because this class is about Solidworks and i needed to take notes on how to use Solidworks on an Ipad. At this point, i'm at a loss, because I believe the laptop is defective and if it is, Best Buy gives me my money back, and I bought it for 1300$ brand new. Other people in my program have the same exact laptop as me and… no issues. If I could salvage this one, because having a laptop with a 3070 TI and a Rysen 7 6800H and replacing it, with a same price, laptop with a 3050 and a Intel I5, is a big loss in potential performance. So if i could get help with fixing this, I would highly appreciate it.

    Note: Just as an example, if i scroll in discord, the Temp goes automatically to 70 degrees, and the fans go ~4000 rpm each.
    Also, idle temps are ~60C and the fans idle at 2000 to 2500 rpm.

    You can try to replace the thermal paste.

     @AnhEZ28 as I mentioned in my post, that's the thing about this computer, it's been repasted 3 times in less than a year, so I doubt it's the thermal paste.

    What thermal paste did you use? I have tried the fair ones and worked for about 3 weeks. They don't work well because of the pump-out effect.

    @AnhEZ28

    Best buy has no idea if they even replaced the thermal paste or not.
    seems like they havent.

    update on the case, using autocad and a light duty app in the background, (autocad ~10% usage, Freeways ~5%, and Windows itself ~7%).

    the total CPU usage goes to 22%.
    Ram usage 8.4 GB/15.2GB
    GPU (integrated) usage at 8%
    and 3070 Ti at 0%.

    Autocad lags so bad that i can't even use it and at this point i can't complete anything in a reasonable time.

    also it seems as though my GPU isn't very responsive, shutting off randomly and not used at all.

    The heat at 22% usage is that of 84c* and of 100% is of 100c* but fan speed at 75%

    Nothing makes sense because every driver is updated (I updated everything manually),
    Fans are clean,
    I have already checked thermal paste, it's fine
    and it's low usage so that's not the issue.

    is there anything else to check?

    I'm not sure what to do now so…

    Thanks in advance, Mateo

    @Mateloid,

    It would be interesting to check whether there is a process, service or driver that may be causing excessive use of CPU resources, ISRs / DPCs latency or I/O "storms" in Windows.

    I myself have had so many hassles and problems with Windows 11. I confess that I even lost track of the countless necessary adjustments I had to make. Be it because of: Microsoft Edge, Windows Defender, Widgets, RAM leakage and Memory compression. Which in turn kept the CPU busy incessantly, causing its clock to constantly operate at its maximum frequency and consequently stuck the CPU FAN at max speed.

    Acer laptop's equipped with AMD Ryzen processors (released more than two years ago) have a serious problems due to the lack of AGESA and SMU microcode updates. Acer is aware about these issues, but it seems to be more viable (economically speaking) to ignore the problem. I'm tired of asking for help and fighting with these guys!

    Taking into consideration that Solidworks tasks is single-threaded. You can try enable the Core Parking feature to put unused cores at idle-mode, therefore help to reduces power usage and heat:

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-disable-core-parking-windows

    Check also, that your Nitro AN515-46's BIOS / UEFI firmware is updated to the latest available version:

    @eGomes

    Like i mentioned before, there is almost no usage of the cpu… also the 3070 is just not active even if i force it to be…

    idk by this point, nothing makes sense. loading into a game like Rainbow six, the CPU usage is 15-22%…………………………………………………..

    …what? …how does that even make sense? …what is a kilometer again?

    so by this point, chucking it off a bridge with high flow, 120km/h traffic so that the laptop doesn't see the light of day anymore makes more sense than keeping it running.

    Appart from an alienware (it cought on fire), this is the worst laptop that i've ever purchased and i regret spending the cash on it.

    Something isn't right! Its temperatures are too high (87 to 93 ºC) for only 33% CPU usage.

    One suspicion would be that the coolant in the refrigeration system (heat pipes) of your Nitro AN515-46 has leaked:

    Again:

    #1 Make sure your UEFI firmware is updated with the latest available version (1.12);

    #2 See if the NVIDIA VBIOS patch is applied (please ignore this, is only for RTX 3060 series):

    VBIOS NVVDD EDPc setting change from 90A to 135A Geforce RTX 3060 VBIOS ver: 94.06.36.00.63

    The Nitro AN515-46 laptops AMD Ryzen™ 7 6800H cpu has a Max. Operating Temperature (Tjmax) at 95°C before it shuts down while the RTX3070 Ti gpu shuts down at 96°C, this laptop is designed to run at 100°C max temps momentarily only before it shuts down. The best solution is to paste your cpu and gpu with a liquid metal and all its VRAM covered with a graphene thermal pad type pads and also operate this laptop with an efficient laptop cooler like the  Kootek Cooler Pad Chill Mat 5 or the Tree New Bee Cooling Pad that will disperse all the hot air from within yuour laptop quickly, try all that as your laptop will operate allot cooler.

    Note: be very careful with liquid metal paste, as applying too much liquid metal paste to the cpu and gpu will destroy the cpu or gpu and its surrounding circuitries and especially the solder connections, as liquid metal is a conductive and a solder eroding paste and if this paste leaks under the cpu or gpu or around the circuitries of the cpu and gpu it will destroy your mainboard beyond repair, so be very careful when applying liquid metal paste as you need to apply a very thin and minimal amount for good thermal conductivity, also try the Theraml Grizzly products as that is what I've used and they are excellent and their liquid metal and graphene thermal pads reduces temps by at least 10-15°C. Good luck and hope this helps you out some more.

    It may not necessarily be a issue! But an excessive amount of opened Handles showed in Task Manager (140k), can be an indicator of a handle leak caused by a software bug. And be responsible for causing degradation of system performance.

    Download and install all available Windows updates, and also patches for the applications you have installed on your laptop.
