Acer Spin 111-31 - not seeing 64 GB ExFat MicroSD BIOS and there's no option to turn off the slot

My laptops are limited by 32 (28) GB of RAM, there's literally 5 GB left, and I wante dto move apps and downloads to MicrSD, but when I insert a MicroSd into these (I bought two of them used) the SD card doesn't show up in MyComputer.

Put them in another computer and they show up fine, ExFat format.
I checked the BIOS and there's not even an option to turn off the slot, so I don't know why they wouldn't be showing up.

Use a USB reader and it shows up fine on the Acer.
I don't know why both of the laptops I bought would not read the MicroSD card.

Reinstall the SP111-31 Card Reader Driver 10.0.14393.31228 and see if the SD card is recognized.

That worked. Now to get windows to use it for apps and storage.

You can use it for storage pretty easily, but apps will only install to removable media if they are stand alone. Many, if not all, of the SP111-31 models had space for a 2.5" HDD and you could add storage by dropping a nice big SSD into that spot. It's likely that the original box had a little cable for the HDD, you can look to see if yours is installed by opening the back (12 screws, 2 of one size and 10 of another) and looking here:

If that cable isn't there and there either wasn't one in the box or you lost it over the years there are two different Acer part number for it, they are the same, just sourced from different vendors:

There is also the bracket and screws:

but those are really only needed if you tend to be rough with the laptop. There's not a lot of room around the drive when installed so you can likely go without the bracket. If it seems loose just use a bit of duct tape to hold it in. :)

Mine does not have the cable. The space is there, but no way to add a drive. Oh, I'd love to drop in a 256 or whateevr drive.

I've read in other threads that the SSD was an options in Spin 111's sold outside the US. I'm pretty sure mine are US models, but I'm getting mine 2nd or third hand. I'm just happy they work.

I got these latest two because I had one originally, but with only a 4/32 config.
At least two new ones are with an 8/32 config, they rely less on virtual memory.

If I coudl find some 8/64 or higher,
or if there was a Spin 111 with a larger screen (there's so much bezel)
I'd probably get them. I just like the compact size, a lot.

The cable should be available as a part, unless the connector for it is missing from the motherboard, you can use it to add a drive.
