Helios 16 (PH16-71) Repasting CPU without voiding warranty?

Hi,

I have the Helios 16 (PH16-71) with a I9-13900HX and a RTX 4080. The CPU idles between 50c-55c while on a IETS laptop cooler, while using Spotify with no background applications, it sits at 65c-73c. While playing Halo Infinite, the CPU sits at 5% but is at the 95c-99c thermals.

Acer has already offered me to ship the device but due to my schedule, I need the computer and can only spare a day without it. Would I be able to re-paste the CPU on my own without voiding warranty?

The laptop is elevated and has a IETS GT500 laptop cooler, and I understand that undervolting is not an option on this Acer. The GPU sits very comfortable on idle at 45c and while gaming between 70c-75c.

Ita a big job to change the paste of the cpu and gpu on this laptop (see captions below as its from the PH16-71 SG). Acer will NOT allow you to take this laptop apart and still validate your warranty, no matter what region and/or warranty sticker they have restricting disassembly, as it will be visible to them if you did open and take the thermal module out, so be aware of this. Changing the paste will not reduce temps greatly maybe and if you apply Liquid Metal like from Thermal Grizzly it will reduce like 5-10C max but not greatly, you can do that after the warrnty runs out or if you want to void your warranty, its up to you, cant have it both ways😁good luck and hope this helps you out!

The temps that you are getting are normal as this laptop is designed for temps as high as 110C and with the IETS GT500 laptop cooler, those temps will not be reached in gaming and/or editing. As the PH16-71 monitors and turns off if temps reach the set high temperatures below.

    CPU Turbo mode

    • Tubo CPU TCC Trigger = 100C
    • CPU OS Shut Down Trigger = 110C
    • CPU EC Shut Down Trigger = 110C
    • H/W Shut down: 95.5C

GPU Turbo mode and fan speeds

    • 75C~80C = Fan1 at 5900rpm / Fan 2 at 6100rpm

The answer depends on where you live because "consumer protection" laws vary widely from country to country (some have none).

Repasting won't void warranty, unless there warranty seals preventing from opening the laptop and removing the heatsink.

Note- BUT IF YOU DAMAGE ANYTHING WHILE OPENNING OR REPASTING THEN WARRENTY WILL VOID.

If there is no Warrenty seal then do repasting in my way, I mentioned steps in below post comment-

(Use one of these paste Arctic Mx-4, Arctic Mx-6 or thermal grizzly kryonaut)
