Hi I was given the above named laptop by a friend for my daughter (I'm a single parent so couldn't afford one for her)

She only wants it for school work, sims and Roblox but it is incredibly slow and I can't explain just how slow it is. I looked on Google and it said add more RAM but I can't on this laptop, I have stopped basically every program I can on start up and deleted every program apart from a few, it has lots of memory and I did a full deep virus scan (took 14 hours to run) and no issues.

Can anyone help or advise please I am so desperate to make my daughter happy as we had an awful Christmas.

Thank you for your time.

Sarah.

There is no such model as the Acer Spin SP314-45N? You must mean the Acer Spin SP314-54N which is a budget laptop that has soldered onboard ram and its ram can't be upgraded as its fixed to either 4GB or 8GB or 16GB capacities, and if your laptop is slow, it must have the lower 4GB ram which is not adequate for this laptops Win-11 OS and its newest version 23H2, and that is why its slow.

Try to do these things and see if the laptop speeds up a bit, if not then you need to nuy a higer end spec laptop that will give you better speeds with Win-11 version 23H2:

    • If you have the 4GB ram SP314-54N version then downgrade the OS to Win-10 Home OS, as that will speed it up a bit.
    • If you have a slow M.2 SSD boot drive like a Gen3x2 upgrade to a faster Gen3x4 type M.2 drive like the M.2 SSD that Acer fits oem to this laptop which is the Samsung SSD MZVLQ1T0HALB00000, as that will speed your laptop up a bit also.
    • Update bios to the last version 1.13 named "Updates CPU microcode revision"
    • Update all windows updates and drivers that windows update has for this laptop.
    • Make sure you have all Intel drivers up to date and install the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant

Doing all the above will ensure that this laptop will run at its peak performance and if your laptop is still slow, its due to being restricted to 4GB ram. Good luck and hopr this helps you out.

Yes, it is likely a SP314-54N model. The various different models under that series had 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of ram. They all have SSDs, so the usual suspect for slow performance (the old spinning HDDs) isn't the issue. How full is the drive? Try running Performance Monitor to see what might be the bottleneck. Look especially for instances where the drive is at 100%. That's often a sign that memory is getting used up. Look also at what is installed for an antivirus. You might find that there are more than one installed, and they tend to get into each other's way. Best in that case to uninstall all of them and just use Windows Defender that comes free with the OS.
