I bought an Acer Aspire A315 laptop from the Acer Store. I was under the impression from the specification that it would have a USB-C port suitable for charging. It does not. Moreover, the DC-IN 19V cable I was supplied with, never fitted properly, and melted and broke within a couple of weeks use. I purchased two replacement cables from Amazon (and yes I did check that they were compatible) and the same thing happened to these. The plastic tip of the cable melted and fell off. The connection to charge is so bad that I have to stand the computer on its end and wedge the charging cable in a certain position. Obviously this is not ideal, and useless for travelling with. When I contacted Acer Customer Service they said that my warranty would not cover this fault as it was "physical damage". Basically they are blaming me for their device being faulty from the get-go. What are my options for getting this purchase refunded and replaced with a better device please?

The Acer Aspire 3 - A315-23P-R0JK is the only model without even a USB-C port.

Both Ryzen 3 and 5 in the A315-24P-ROJx do support USB-C power delivery (PD) and Intel i3-i7 CPUs in other A315 models have Thunderbolt4 so what model do you have? Do you see a DC charging symbol like this next to the USB-C port, if so, your laptop supports power delivery.

From Laptopmedia: "On the left side, there is the charging plug, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with Power Delivery and DisplayPort functions"

The problem with the original adapter plug is unfortunate and yes you have to be very careful buying (very cheap) adapters from Amazon as they often do not reveal the barrel pin size so crucial for a proper fit in the DC port of your laptop, you can't just rely on the compatibility listings. Without a full model number, I cannot advice you what adapter to buy online but it will probably cost between $60-80.

Thank you Puraw for your kind advice.

My device is a A315-35-P4AD. The connections it has are: LAN port, HDMI port, USB-A port x3, Kensington port, headphone jack, DC-IN.

No USB-C although this was not clear from the Acer store specifications page.

The original charging cable did not fit properly and used to fall out. The first replacement I bought also fell out easily, this was a cheap one priced at £13. So I bought a more expensive Koundey replacement cable priced at £55. This fits much better but does not charge. There is just a very weak connection which only charges when I rest the laptop on one end with the cable wedged at an angle.

As far as I am concerned, Acer have both misinformed me about my connections specification, and supplied the wrong cable and / or a faulty device. I would like some compensation from them.

    Thank you
