Using Acer Aspire A515-56, How do I get my laptop to boot with it's SSD drive and not the SATA SSD?

My Acer Aspire has a SSD drive and a SATA connection not being used. I have a failed drive from another laptop that I cannot access via USB and thought I'd have better luck with a SATA connection. (I'm trying to recover files from it)

BIOS shows it installed as the HDD1. I assumed that the HDD0 would boot normally and I could view HDD1 in disk management. The problem is that the laptop will not boot at all if the drive is installed and my only boot options are 1. Windows Boot Manager and 2. Windows Boot Manager. Neither one works - no response.

How do I get my laptop to boot with it's SSD drive and not the SATA Solid State Drive (bad) so I can possibly view the contents?

It is normal that if you only connect the SATA it will not be recognized since it has an operating system installed on another computer and has its identifiers and boot parameters.

I'm sorry but I don't know how you can access the disk, keep in mind that if the disk is damaged, it may be a reason for not being recognized.

I hope there are more answers that can help you.

Hi @ozarktechservice does the disk you are trying to install have an operating system installed?
What exactly happened to the disk, did it boot with the other computer?

    All the best.

It's a WIN 10 hard drive that "went bad" in a Lenovo Thinkpad. Would no longer boot. Did a Linux boot with Lenovo diagnostics and ran diagnostics. It failed Random Seek and Funnel Seek. Tried running Recover Bad Sector Tool and the result code was UHD00O00O-RK7VCG. It belonged to a doctor who has very important documents and just want to recover the files. Normally I would just connect via USB but PC doesn't recognize it. Was trying to attempt a SATA connection in another PC. This brings me to the question I asked:

How do I get my laptop to boot with it's original SSD drive and not the SATA Solid State Drive (bad) so I can possibly view the contents?

I think the problem is that the computer is in conflict by having two different boot boots, the problem is that USB does not recognize it and placed as SATA the computer does not boot, because the solution could be to eliminate the boot boot of the SATA disk.

Have you tried removing the SSD drive and leaving only the SATA and see what happens?

    All the best.

Yes I did. As I said before it will not boot on it's on so I have to use bootable media. However, HD doesn't show up with any bootable rescue media.

As noted, it shows up in the BIOS only
