The easiest way to backup and most secure way to restore (100% reliable) a complete disk is with W7 backup in Control Panel Windows11 23h2. The program uses the same Windows recovery USB boot drive that you also use to repair Windows, and anyone can run and understand the minimal settings required. This won't backup files or individual drive volumes, only backs up and restore the entire UEFI drive. It has File History and File Backup options that don't work, only use the Image file creator option at the top left of the window and the VHD backup file it creates (takes 40 minutes with a NVMe SSD) can be mounted later in File Explorer of any Windows PC and files can be copied/saved and folders can be browsed at will. Make sure your external USB target Backup drive free space is larger than the source drive you are backing up.

after the backup is completed, it will ask if you want to make an Emergency or Recovery/repair disk, if you don't have a Windows Recovery USB flash drive yet you can make one now (highly recommended): insert a +20GB USB2.0 flash drive in the USB port and click on Yes (takes 30 minutes to make). To restore a Backup, connect the backup drive with the backup image file and insert the Recovery USB flash drive and boot, click on Restore an image file on another drive. On some older systems the USB drive needs to be moved to the top of boot devices in BIOS that requires a boot to BIOS with F2 first and move the USB with your mouse or F5/F6 to the top of boot devices (2nd last BIOS screen) and save setting and exit.

You may get some comments from the Macrium Reflect devotees proclaiming that Macrium is the best, but that is not free and far too complicated for the average user. 😉

Hi Puraw, thank you for your post, however there is no option to backup entire drive neither from Windows 11 Backup/Recovery tool or Acer Care Center, what they have; just recovery Windows if crash (but I will lose what I installed app) or Sync files/folders to Microsoft OneDrive, I do not even have any option backup my files/folders to my USB external HD. My wife use HP laptop also boot from UEFI mode but I can boot up UEFI USB and backup her laptop entire drive, I think the problem is Acer BIOS, after I boot from USB UEFI I am not even see laptop internal drive at all, thanks anyway.

The Windows 7 backup, which comes with Windows 11. Go to Control Panel (not Settings) and choose the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) option. You want a full backup, which is possible has been removed in the Home edition of Windows. Macrium Reflect will also do a full drive backup and will work even with Windows Home.

Control Panel backup works, however system files option is gray out and could not select and backup, also successful backup should be boot up from external USB then backup. If the backup run from itself OS and some files still opened and used I an not sure this kind of backup can successful recovery, hope Acer update their BIOS so I can see internal drive after boot up external USB, thank you.

You want to use the 'create a system image' and 'create a system repair disc' functions.

At first the backup only can backup to CD or DVD instead of external USB hard drive or large SD Micro disk, also very easy to fail during backup process so have to start over backup again and again, second the backup seems just backup system files not backup entire hard drive, anyway why other brand/model laptop can backup with UEFI mode but not Acer?
