Hello everyone,

I am reaching out to seek advice regarding the upgrade possibilities for my Acer A315-51 laptop. My specific inquiry is about the feasibility of installing an SSD (2230 or other compatible sizes) in the WiFi module slot.

To provide some context, I intend to use my laptop as a home lab with an Ethernet connection, so I won't need the WiFi module. Given this scenario, I am considering repurposing that slot for additional storage, particularly an SSD, to enhance the laptop's storage capacity.

I would greatly appreciate insights on the following points:

  1. Is it technically feasible to replace the WiFi module with an SSD in the Acer A315-51?
  2. If so, what size and type of SSD (e.g., 2230 or others) would be compatible with this slot?
  3. Are there any specific technical considerations or potential challenges that I should be aware of before attempting this modification?
  4. Can I use this as the boot drive?

Any advice, experiences, or insights from those who have attempted similar upgrades or have knowledge in this area would be extremely valuable. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

The best way is to add a SATA SSD as the laptop has the available slot for it.

The Wifi card has a different connection and will need an adapter to convert from the Wireless M.2 A/E key to the M.2 M key.
