Hi I don't know if anyone can help me, but my computer wont boot when the display port is connected to my monitor.

I have the following spec's:

Preditor Orion 5000 (PO5 - 640)

Processor - 12th Gen Intel ® Core ™ i7 - 12700

Memory - 16GB Standard RAM

Graphics Device - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

All drivers are up to date.

Display - Samsung Neo G7 (I have also updated the software for the monitor)

The issue I am having is that when my display port is connected to my desktop (straight into the graphics card) and the display is set to DP 1.4 the computer wont boot, I have switched the DP cable out to a new UGreen 1.4 display cable and I have also tried every single port to make sure it wasnt a faulty wire or port. The only way I can get this to boot is the following:

  1. Switch the display setting on the monitor to DP 1.1 before turning on computer, i can then change the display back to 1.4 once it has booted and it works fine.
  2. Unplug the display cable when booting, as soon as I hear the beep I can plug the display cable back in and it works fine.

This is just a pain having to do this everytime, and I was wondering if there is a way to sort this so i dont have to keep doing the above?

Thanks Luke

It could be that THIS helps. Below is some of the text from the link.

"The DisplayID specification provides enhanced display capabilities. To ensure compatibility with monitors using DisplayID, an update to the NVIDIA GPU firmware may be required.

Without the update, systems that are connected to a DisplayPort monitor using DisplayID could experience blank screens on boot until the OS loads. This update should only be applied if blank screens are occurring on boot[...]"

Try a HDMI cable as that is how the Samsung Neo G7 should be connected, you must have an issue with the DP port from the gpu so simplify the connection with an HDMI cable.

Try running updates on the 3080 drivers. I have a hard time imagining just what could go wrong in the hardware to cause those symptoms. If it were an issue with the physical port you wouldn't see it on all DP ports. It's possible it is some sort of incompatibility with the Samsung monitor, but I would expect that would generate a lot of complaints. The Nvidia is pretty much the standard for GPUs.
