Brand new computer, just a few days old. I read the manual front to back and found on Page 51 Saving Power.

I followed instructions to disable the switch called Turn On Fast Start-up.

After shutting off the computer, allowed it to rest about five minutes and then turned it on again. It would not show any startup screen, did not show the logo but did start the fan. The screen was still dark, and the whole computer grew increasingly warm.

I have unplugged it, and will try again if it cools down.
Any recommendations, any F buttons I should push with or without the Acer logo screen?

Return your laptop to the retailer or Acer Services in your country and demand a new unit, you have only 15 days so don't wait:

I believe something went wrong during start up, causing the laptop to overheat and thus kicked off the fan. I let the fan use up the battery and when the laptop was cool plugged it in and charged up the battery. It is working now.
The lesson to me is: - don't mess with the fast startup

Any guides that tell you to set your laptop to save the battery charge is a gimmick, don't even use or set the Acer Care Center 80% Battery Charge Limit either, as that is a gimmick also, let your battery charge and discharge normally and once a month completely discharge the battery and then fully charge it and keep it on charge 24/7 as THA WILL NOT DAN+MAGE YOUR BATTERY. That is why you had that problem and if it happens in future, then do a Hard Reset and take the main battery out, disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery then shorts its +&- mainboard plug pins and leave the laptop like that for 15min then reconnect all batteries and reboot, as your laptop should operate and boot 100% and perfectly. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
