Hello i have a aser aspire 5 that have a SNID of xxxx. It's specs are i5-11gen processor, 8gb ram, 1TB hdd,mx350.Model number is A515-56G-50AS. And it is built in 2020

Now i wanted to upgrade my laptop.i need to install a 256gb ssd and a additional 8 gb ram (for total 16 gb ram). But i have a few questions in the upgrade.

  1. is my laptop is ssd and ram upgradeable
  2. How many ram slots are there in my laptop
  3. How many ram slots are upgradeable
  4. Is there one 8 gb ram or two 4gb rams in my laptop.
  5. If my laptop has two 4 gb rams , are there any free ram slots.or do i have to remove one ram to replace with 8 gb

If you know the answers to those questions please kindly reply (don't mind the language bcs i am not very good at english)

  • Hi,

    Yes:

1Yes, you can upgrade M.2 SSD up to 1TB and upgrade RAM to either 24GB or 20GB depending on the onboard memory size.

    2.One soldered+one removable RAM slot.

    3.One slot can be upgraded.

    4. It depends , you may get one with 4GB onboard+4GB removable RAM or 8GB onboard.

    5. You may get a model with 4GB onboard+4GB removable RAM, in that case, you can replace 4GB removable RAM with a 16GB RAM.

Yes, you have 1 PCIe 3.0 x4 slot for a M.2 2280 NVMe SSD up to 1TB, both Samsung 970EVO Plus and WD SN550 SSD will work.

This laptop comes in configurations with 4GB and 8GB soldered to the motherboard, and it is further expandable by one SODIMM slot: if you have 4GB onboard memory you can install up to 16GB RAM in removable RAM slot to make the total memory of 20GB. I recommend what you planned to install 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM (!6GB total RAM) like this one: https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct8g4sfra32a/ct21200459 Copy the part number, brand and CL of the 4GB module installed and buy the 8GB module or if the slot is still empty get the specs of the 8GB module soldered on the motherboard with CPU-Z or type this in the command prompt: wmic memorychip list full and press Enter, note the part number and buy exactly the same module. You either open the laptop and check if the RAM slot is still free which means you have 8GB soldered, or you run the WMIC command. If you have already 4GB DDR4 in the slot you can replace it with a 16GB DDR4 (20GB total RAM) but that will run in Single mode, possibly at 1333MHz.
