VMD Drivers for an Aspire A515-57 HELP!! what I need - the .inf driver files?

I've just bought an Aspire A515-57 and I have looked everywhere for VMD drivers for the NVME drive!

I've installed third party backup software (EaseUS ToDo Backup) which is fine but when I create a recovery USB pendrive it won't boot because it obviously needs the driver for the VMD drive?

It's been suggested that I download and install the Intel RST software, which I have, but that doesn't seem to give me what I need - the .inf driver files? https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19512/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-installation-software-with-intel-optane-memory-10th-and-11th-gen-platforms.html

I think the internal drive is a Western Digital PC SN740 NVMe SSD.

Please can someone help me as it's driving me literally potty!

TIA Steve

EaseUS Todo USB flash drive boots on any system, I used that on my a515-54G in AHCI Sata mode for years. Just disable VMD in BIOS, if Intel VMD is not enabled, the SSD should be recognized during the OS installation without requiring any additional drivers. Boot to BIOS with F2, go to the Main tab, and press CTRL+S. The VMD Controller should appear for you to disable it.

No, that didn't work. All that happened was I disabled the VMD in the BIOS and tried to restore the backup image and it failed…. so I had to install Windows again….

I just really need the correct VMD driver to add to the WinPE USB pendrive.

There must be one somewhere - anywhere?

Oh well, I somehow managed to find a driver that worked although Acer do NOT make it easy for anyone to find it…

Why can't they just put it on the driver section of the support page! It's not as if people never want to reinstall an OS or anything 🙄

Hey AspiringUser303, your Aspire A515-57 model laptops VMD driver is included in the Acer Drivers and Support page for the A515-57 and its the IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver version 19.5.1.1040, btw I have the exact same laptop and thisis the driver that I used when I reinstalled Win-11 24H2 OS on this same laptop, as you need this IRST driver at the Win-11 installation section at “Where do you want to install Windows? > Load driver, as then you install this IRST driver that should be put onto the bootable Win-11 USB and the driver loaded from there, so that the M.2 boot drive is recognized and you can continue the Win-11 installation.

The VMD Drivers, specifically Intel Volume Management Device (VMD) drivers, are software components that allow operating systems to interact with and manage NVMe SSDs connected to Intel's Volume Management Device. VMD is a hardware logic within Intel Xeon Scalable processors that provides direct control and management of NVMe SSDs. The VMD driver enables features like hot-plug and surprise removal support, LED management, and error isolation from the host OS.
