I am currently using the Aspire 5 A515-45. As the title says, my laptop screen is black but it works on an external monitor.

Sidenote: The brightness key still works. Also, sometimes when I unplug the laptop from the monitor, the screen turns back to normal. However, whenever I open the lid after closing it for a while (Coming back from school, after sleeping, etc.) it turns back to the black screen.

Thanks in advance if anyone answers it. 🦖

I recommend sending your laptop to Acer Services in your country to check the LED cable and screen.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but I am out of warranty. So am I still good, or do I have to get my hands dirty? 🦖

You could have a faulty eDP cable, as this cable is under constant wear and tear from the laptop lid opening and closing and overtime gets damaged and even shorts out at its plugs, so check this cable and its plugs for any damage and/or a shorted plug at the screen or mainboard. Then it could be the actual screen, which also need inspecting.

Screens, the highlighted part is the manufacturers' part number, so look that up, as Acer does not list part numbers for screens

Considering the symptoms you've described, the problem could be related to either the video cable or the screen itself. Here are the recommended steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Video Cable Check:
      • Ensure that the video cable connecting the laptop screen is securely plugged in. A loose connection can sometimes cause display problems.
    2. Screen Test:
      • Verify the laptop's functionality by connecting it to an external monitor. If the external monitor works fine, it suggests that the issue may lie with the laptop screen.

Given the circumstances, I recommend starting with the video cable. If you find that the cable is damaged or not functioning properly, you may want to replace it. Once replaced, observe if the issue persists.

If the problem persists even after replacing the video cable, it might be necessary to consider a new replacement screen. You can find compatible parts on our website, AJPARTS UK.
