Acer Aspire A515-43-R6DE Stopped Working

The problem started about a week ago after the computer went into sleep mode. I think a Windows update started without my being aware and may have started the problem, but now I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem. Most times I'll turn the computer on by pressing the power button. The keyboard lights will turn on and the power light turns on, but the screen is black. It stays this way for a variable amount of time, but ultimately turns off. After MANY attempts I've found that the computer will SOMETIMES turn on, but ultimately leads to a BSOD (I'm on Windows 11, btw) with various error codes. I first thought that the update led to a driver problem, but the computer turning on is so finicky to even see the error messages I'm now wondering if it's a hardware problem. I've tried unplugging the battery and turning on with the AC adapter, but have the same problem (the computer will 'turn on' then, but not actually show anything). I've also tried removing the SSD, but get the same problem. The computer does feel hotter than I remember it being (certainly considering it isn't really seemingly DOING anything) so maybe the motherboard is fried? I'm not even sure how to troubleshoot at this point. Any thoughts?

When you manage to boot to Windows, try the troubleshooter or Reset this PC (picture):

If you cannot get to Windows do the Reset this PC option after you boot and see the Acer logo immediately press combines ALT+F10. If nothing works you have to boot with a Windows Recovery flash drive and Reset this PC from there (Troubleshoot-Advanced).

It sounds like you're experiencing a complex issue with your Acer Aspire A515-43-R6DE laptop. Troubleshooting hardware and software issues can be a bit challenging, but here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:

    1. Check for External Devices:Disconnect all external devices, including USB drives, external monitors, and any other peripherals. Sometimes, faulty external devices can cause startup issues.
    2. Boot into Safe Mode:Try booting your computer into Safe Mode. If it boots successfully in Safe Mode, it may indicate that a third-party driver or software is causing the problem.
    3. Check for Windows Updates:Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. If an incomplete or failed update caused the issue, installing the latest updates might resolve it.
    4. Check Event Viewer for Error Logs:Open the Event Viewer in Windows and look for any error messages or warnings around the time of the crashes. This might provide more information about the specific issues causing the BSOD.
    5. Run System File Checker (SFC) and DISM:
Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands:
      sfc /scannow
      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    6. Update Graphics and Chipset Drivers:Make sure your graphics and chipset drivers are up to date. Visit the Acer website and download the latest drivers for your specific model.
    7. Run Memory Diagnostic:Use the built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to check for memory issues. Open the Start menu, type "Windows Memory Diagnostic," and follow the instructions to restart your computer and check for memory problems.
    8. Check for Overheating:As you mentioned the laptop feels hotter, overheating could be a potential issue. Ensure that the cooling system is working properly, and consider using compressed air to clean out any dust from the vents.
    9. Perform a System Restore:If the issue started after a recent update, performing a system restore to a point before the update might resolve the problem.
    10. Contact Acer Support:If none of the above steps resolves the issue, it's advisable to contact Acer support for assistance. They may provide specific guidance or recommend further diagnostics.

If you're not comfortable performing some of these steps, it might be a good idea to seek help from a professional technician or Acer support. Additionally, if your laptop is still under warranty, Acer's support should be able to assist you further.
