Hi, my battery was showing up as low battery error, then shutting off.

I've tried 2 x replacement batteries, with the same result. The PC will not power up (no power lights at all), but if I put the old faulty battery back in, it comes up with the low battery error again. I have tried resetting this by pressing the switch in the pinhole, but still the same. Please help.

What replacement batteries did you try, these are the batteries recommended by Acer with 3 Acer KT part numbers
    15.4 VDC, 3220 mAH 48WH: AC14B13J, AC14B18J, AC14B3K, AC14B7K, AC14B8K, KT.00403.024., KT.0040G.004, KT0030G.004

Note that you power adapter or barrel plug may be faulty too, this model is 6 years old and Chinese adapters often need to be replaced by then, check that your original adapter barrel plug tip size is 5.5mm OD x 1.7mm ID (quite thick): https://www.ibuybattery.com/laptop-power-supply/acer-extensa-2540-original-ac-adapter.htm

    I've installed a Green Cell AC14B8K (4ICP5/57/80)

    15.2V 2100mAh/32Wh

I've also got a new adapter, but that doesn't seem to be the issue

Is the adapter barrel plug compatible with your DC port, does it fit tightly with an audible click when the tip is fully inserted, when you wiggle the plug is there a change in the amber charge LED?

If the system will not power up at all with a new battery installed, the battery is the wrong one. The Green Cell you have chosen is much smaller in capacity than the stock battery at only 2100Wh:

Search for those six Acer part numbers and purchase one of them instead. Note that a few of those also have a different part number that isn't logoed the same (KT.0040G.006 vs KT-0040G.004 for example). You can search for those alternate numbers as well, in case they are more available. Since the original battery works, but at too low of a charge, the battery circuit is unlikely to have failed, so a correct battery should work. If a correct battery works, but acts the same as the original one, ie. showing low battery errors, then we need to get back into the charging circuit. I wouldn't expect that to be the case…

OK thanks, I'll get back to the supplier today, and see if they have the correct one. I'm on the same thinking as you, the original battery wouldn't work if it was motherboard issue/adapter. Thanks, I'll get back to you, if I get any progress.
