Hi all. After my Acer had been having severe standby battery drain for the last month or so, I tried a battery reset by putting the paperclip into the small battery reset hole but now my laptop doesnt boot anymore!

I tried to perform the procedure of pressing the battery reset button for 5 seconds and then turning on but to no avail! If I plug the charger in, the charge light comes on and when I press the power on button, the blue power light comes on but nothing happens. Screen isnt turning on or anything. Any help please? :(

A paperclip is a bit too large for the tiny microswitch, hope you did not break it, open the laptop and disconnect the battery, try if the microswitch is still functioning (clicks), it is very small and located under the cover pinhole. Press it with a needle or SIM card retrieval pin. Now the laptop is open and the battery disconnected try the following:
Power drain + CMOS reset: Locate the CMOS module (with 2 twisted wires Red and Black) and remove the coin battery. Shorten the +/- contacts inside the CMOS capsule for 2 seconds with a bended paperclip and put the coin battery back with the + sign facing up, close the CMOS capsule. Unseat and firmly reseat the DDR4 module in the slot. Next, press the Power Button on the keyboard for 10-15 seconds after that reconnect the battery cable to the motherboard. Close the laptop, plug-in the adapter and try to boot.

    Hi there.

Many thanks for your response but this doenst seem to have worked. I did everything exactly as you said but nothing helped. I cannot believe that a good laptop like this has been destroyed by something so small.

And worst part of all is that Acer South Africa do not watn to help at all! Very SAD!

If I can leave some further information on this. If I press the power button, the blue power light comes on and I can hear the fan spin slightly at the bottom. The blue light stays on for a little while and then goes off for a second or two and then it comes back on again. This is all it does.

What can be wrong with my Acer? Can someone please help!

    Hi all

Some feedback on this thread. So after pressing the battery key on my laptop my motherboard and CPU have fried. I ended up taking the laptop to a technician and he mentioned that this is common on the Acer Aspire range.

Never again will I purchase an Acer. What an utter piece of rubbish. Yes the feel of the keyboard and look of the laptop was great but the brand itself is a true piece of trash.

I rather recommend going for an HP or Asus. I've had years of use out of them.

    bye Acer!
