I currently have an Acer Predator PO3-600, I have been a console player for years and this is all pretty new to me. I currently have the standard PSU, 1060 6GB GPU, i5-8400 CPU, 16gb RAM.

I am looking to upgrade just my gpu, is there one out there or do I need to start upgrading everything else?

Thanks

What sort of games are you looking to play and at what resolution? I believe there are a few upgrade options for both gpu and cpu, however, I’m not sure the documented upgrades will be very cost effective (e.g. GTX 1660).

I know an ASUS RTX 4070 Dual works with a 500w psu (as I have one), but I’m not sure if it would work in a PO3-600 (I use it in a PO3-640). Something like an RTX 3060 might also work, but I’ve not seen anyone discuss an upgrade of this type with your system.

Most any of them will work, as long as they don't exceed the power available. You can likely go with any of the newer Nvidia GPUs that are close to the same level, so 1660, 2060, 3060, etc..

The most powerful gpu I’ve known to work on a 3000 PO3-600 is the GTX 1660 ti. Here is a comparison with your current gpu:

As you can see, it offers a good amount of improvement over your current setup (for approximately £200).

I believe the PO3-600 motherboard doesn’t support RTX 3xxx series cards which require a 10th gen CPU and an Intel mobo with the 400 chipset etc. The RTX 2060 should theoretically work though.

There are few post about GPU upgrade on this forum. Reddit might have some examples as well. Basically it boils down to three things:

    1. dimensions of the card and case
    2. PSU power and does it have all the needed connectors
    3. with newer cards, is the CPU fast enough or will it limit your perfomance; is it worth the cost if the card is not fully utilized (CPU limited)

Off topic: RTX3000 series cards are not limited to Intel 10th gen and above as even i7-4770K can be used. This combo would not make sense, because the FPS would be limited thanks to old CPU and PCIe generation.
