I use an acer aspire 3, windows 11. It uses HDMI, the external screen uses VGA. I bought a suitable cable for that, but the laptop can't detect the screen even when I try to force it using the "detect" button on settings. How else can I make it detect the screen?

    Hi @ThulaniK what type of adapter are you using?
    Is it an active adapter? Some adapters still need power, check if this is the case.
    If that is not the problem, did you test with lower resolutions?

    Thank you.
    All the best.

    Did you buy the HDMI to VGA adapter? Try a different VGA cable or test that adapter on a different machine.

    Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
    Thank you and have a nice day!

    Yes, and the adapter works on newer screen models but not screen I want to use it on.

    The adapter is active, and I tried changing the resolution, but the problem wasn't resolved.

  • What model is the adapter?
    Is the external one a monitor or a television?

    Thank you.

    @Alejandro_AC

    I do not know the model of the adapter.

    I tested it on a Monitor and a TV (both of them are old models) and it ddnt work. BUT it works on newer models of the TV and monitor.

  • In that case the problem must be in the older equipment, although I don't know the reasons but I think it is the structure of the internal VGA itself.

    Thank you.
    All the best.
