Notebook not powering down by itself

My Acer 4750G notebook recently had a crash.  The result of the crash is such that it cannot start up any more, with the message "BOOTMGR not found". After searching around for solutions, I found that I can only reinstall Windows 7 or 8. Which I chose W7, since I still own the Product Key.

After reinstalling, all drivers are no longer there.  All functions designed and installed by Acer are gone. And Windows 7 keep reporting that the HDD is faulty, somehow. So the best solution is to upgrade HDD (from 750GB to 1TB), since I have to reinstall Windows 7 anyway, and somehow try to reinstall all Acer drivers.

Now there is a new problem: the system does not power down anymore.  After issuing Shutdown from Windows 7, the OS goes through all the saving activities, and then it will just freeze.  The "whirling circle" that indicates activity just stops (freeze), and the HDD activity LED just turns off.

I wonder if I touched any of the wires while I installed the HDD, but I really don't think so.  It was a very straight-forward change.  I have not made any changes in the BIOS, either.

Can this be fixed? Or do I have to always hold down the power button for 4 seconds for it to power down?

Regards,

Jim
