Hey there. As the title says, I have some (probably graphics related) issues with my 5553G. I got the laptop from my cousin as he upgraded to a new one and I deleted all of the data (including the drivers) when I was reinstalling the OS. After doing that, I noticed that the screen resolution is not right at all, and I went to the Acer website to download all the necessary drivers, but there were none listed on the site. Meanwhile I figured out what kind of graphics does it have and I found the drivers on AMD's site. After installing them, Windows only recognizes the HD4250, but not the 5650. Also, when I put the laptop to sleep and I try to turn it back on, the display won't power up at all, even though the laptop is obviously on. I tried switching the BIOS graphics mode to Discreet, but when I turn the laptop on, I get a black screen and can't even boot to BIOS nor change the graphics setting without removing the CMOS battery and resetting everything. Hopefully somebody can help me with this hot mess of a laptop :)

Thanks in advance,

S

  • Be aware that the Aspire 5553G is an old laptop and Acer has stopped all support for it, first you need to get the drivers for this laptop from this sites called, HelpDrivers in their Acer section, these dark screen graphics issues that you are having but the laptop turning on, is a bios issue and the bios needs refreshing or reprograming. Be very careful with old laptops and their bios chips, as these old bios chips do not like to be reflashed as they deteriorate and when you flash an old bios chip it can be damaged and become unworkable and brick your laptop, so be warned about these factors. Once you fix the bios issue all the other issues will be fixed also.

Alright, so I found the BIOS Update files on the website, and installed the latest one on my laptop. Upon opening it, I get an error saying "WMI(INT15) Init fail!(0x261)". Any guesses on what it means and is there a solution for this one?
