Is MS Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 M-1050, compatible with Aspire V3-771, Win7?

I love my (legacy) Aspire V3-771 [i3-2370M, 2.4 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache, 6GB DDR3] laptop, but my Microsoft Wireless Mouse 4000, model 1050, is not working with it (My Logitech mouse
M-RBS136 DOES work with at least 3 of my USB ports on this same computer). Here are some specifics:

  1. The green light on the USB is lit & visible, and
  2. I have a fresh battery inserted, and
  3. I have tried pressing & holding the reset button on the bottom of the mouse, no difference, and
  4. My device manager acknowledges "USB Receiver" with a picture of a mouse, but
  5. The "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center" cannot detect a Microsoft device connected to my computer. More specifically, the message says:
"This may be because Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center does not automatically detect and configure PS/2, Bluetooth, and some USB devices.
    • If you have a supported Microsoft device, plug the USB connector into a different USB port on your computer.
If this does not work, check Troubleshooting device setup.
    • If you have a Bluetooth device, you must first set up the Bluetooth connection."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And, of course, should I update my drivers for the mouse, & if so, can someone kindly provide a safe download, as I have not been successful finding one thus far?

Thank you very much.
