Should I just leave the laptop plugged in when charged?

I looked for smart / intelligent charging but couldn't find anything.

Any help would be gratefully received

You can do either, laptop batteries can be left with their chargers plugged in, but periodically they need to be recycled and left for their charge to go down and then recharged again. Acer has a Battery Charge Limit to 80% in the Acer Care Centre

I always recommend not to use Acer Care Center as it often hangs in Windows11 and interferes with the Windows Updater WAU. The 80% battery limiting theory is based on nothing and can cause issues with BIOS and MS ACPI battery protocol. All those ACC options are available in Windows. You can leave the power adapter/charger plugged in 24/7 without causing any extra battery wear. A new battery needs to be registered by BIOS and Windows only once: Charge to 100%, till the amber LED turns blue, leave it plugged-in for a while and unplug, use the laptop till it turns itself off (hibernate mode at 4%), plug in the adapter and don't use the latop. Let it charge again till the amber LED turns blue and wait a while. This is called a complete charge cycle.
