ACER say this is by design!!! I want all the 1TB on the C: with no D:

I am told this is problematic. Could take hours of messing with partition mananager and an external SSD.

Is there a simple solution? ACER wont provide any solution having created the problem.

To merge C and D drive in Windows 10/11 is very simple and takes seconds, you can use Disk Management1, EaseUS Partition Master, or NIUBI Partition Editor. The steps to merge C and D drive using Disk Management are:

    1. Press Windows + X on the keyboard,
    2. Then click Disk Management from the list.
    3. Right click drive D: and select Delete Volume. (D must be Primary partition)
    4. Right click drive C: and select Extend Volume.

Simply click Next till Finish in the pop-up Extend Volume Wizard window.

Yeah, that won't work if there's a hidden partition between the two. You will want to use a partition utility to remove the D: partition entirely, then move the recovery to the end of the drive, then expand the C: partition to it's full size. It's not too difficult but does take a few reboots and typically requires the purchased version of the utility. It can all be dealt in situ, no need for an external drive.
