¿What type of SD cards does de Aspire E5-551G support?

I'm having problems trying to access 2 memory cards that were previously used in smartphones.

The model of the laptop is E5-551G-T3UD

The cards are:

  • One is 32 GB Micro SDHC I (Sandisk Ultra).
  • The other one is a 64 GB Micro SDXC I (Sandisk Extreme).

I can't access the data, can't format them, can't delete partitions (the 32 GB one is formatted as raw).

Since this is a bit old laptop (2015), I think the card reader might have some kind of limitations. Is that so?

Thanks.

@adominguez both of your cards are MicroSD? If so, make sure that the SD card adapter lock toggle is not switched on.

    Hi @AnhEZ28 ,

Yes, both are MicroSD and both adapters are unlocked.

    I also tried:

    • A couple of extra adapters… just in case.
    • I followed many tutorials about the different ways to "solve" this kind of problem, like diskpart windows command, windows disk management program, SD Card Formatter utility from sdcard.org.
    • And as a last resort, I checked the manual 😉. It says the card reader supports SD, SDHC and SDXC

I think maybe both cards are damaged or something, so I thought about buying a new one. But I don't know which one is compatible with this laptop.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi @adominguez i leave you the information from the service manual that I hope will help you:

The problems can be two, the formatting of the card or damaged card.

    Thank you.
    All the best.

@adominguez check those two cards in the disk management. It would be helpful if you show the screenshots up here.

@Alejandro_AC Thanks for the Service Manual.

If I try to format any of the cards, there is an error. Same thing when I try to remove a partition.

@AnhEZ28 I attached screenshots of the Disk Management for both cards.

Thank you both for your help.

@Alejandro_AC This is the result of the chkdsk for both cards:

El tipo del sistema de archivos es RAW.
CHKDSK no está disponible para unidades RAW.

In the case of the 32GB card, the Disk Management tool shows RAW as the format, as you can see in the screenshots I sent before. However in the case of the 64GB card, Disk Management does not show RAW as format.

Is there any way to just wipe out everything, partitions and all?

I don't have important data in there anyway.

Once again, thank you for all your help.

  • I think there are utilities for this, especially one of them I've been using for a long time but I don't remember its name, I'm going to try to investigate a little on the internet and I'll tell you.
In any case, do not rule out that it may be damaged, this type of card is very sensitive.

    Thank you.
    A cordial greeting.

  • Here you have a generic article, take a look at it to see if any of the comments can work.

@Alejandro_AC I have already tried all the 13 ways without success.

That's it, I quit. I'll go buy some small-sized-large-capacity USB drive to use instead.

Thanks so much for your help 👍️

    Saludos.
