Hello,
I have an ES1-732 laptop (year of construction 2017) with defective USB port, and an external USB keyboard cannot be used. Can I switch the device 'On' without having to connect the internal keyboard every time ?

@ERS487 possible by bridging the two PINs on the most right side of the keyboard connector. If doesn't work, try the left side. Quite risky though.

In Power Plan you can set the Open Lid action to resume but that only works if your laptop is in sleep or hibernate mode and you may have to change a setting in BIOS: https://www.intowindows.com/how-to-change-laptop-lid-open-action-in-windows-10/

You can also activate OSK in W10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-the-on-screen-keyboard-osk-to-type-ecbb5e08-5b4e-d8c8-f794-81dbf896267a#ID0EBBD=Windows_10
I recommend bringing your laptop to Acer Services in your country to repair that USB port.😉

The mainboard has a defect and it is not possible to start Windows. The only thing that I can do is to 'power on' the portable computer using the built-in keyboard. Is there any way to boot up the laptop other than using the built in keyboard?

For example if I bridge pin 27 with pin 28 on the keyboard connector or use another trick (photo is showing the 28-pin keyboard connector).

The laptop is currently disassembled and I am looking for the mainboard fault. Is there a method, e.g. for service technicians, to start up the pc other than pressing the power button on the built-in keyboard?
(-If so, I would save myself having to connect the keyboard after each troubleshooting step)

You're right! I measured the two first PINs of the built-in keyboard while pressing the POWER button and I measured 137 ohms on the multimeter. Those pins were pin 27 and pin 28. I then shorted those 2 pins with the multimeter probe tip, and the portable computer booted.
-Thank you, perfect. That is the solution!
