Nitro 5 AN515-43-ROT3 M.2 slots both NVME or one SATA? NVME card that doesn't work.

I have the Nitro 5, AN515-43-ROT3.

I dropped (it was on an ironing board and the legs collapsed so a cushioned fall) the laptop and my 1TB HDD is playing up (want to avoid physical drives now as fragile to cables being removed accidentally or vibrations etc). So want to replace it.

The laptop boot comes from a PCiE M.2 card. But there is a 2nd M.2 Slot and the NVME M.2 1TB cards are the same price as a HDD replacement.

I am getting conflicting info that this second M2 slot is SATA only. The SATA cards are more expensive here. Just add up as the slot has the same notch (one) as the slot in use.

I don't want to waste money purchasing a NVME card that doesn't work.

Another option is to use a 1TB 2.5 SATA SDD in the drive bay instead of the corrupt HDD I need replacing.

Any help is

I am starting to think it is SATA only as written on the motherboard. Seen PCIE/SATA written on the motherboard of a different spec Nitro 5. Seems Intel versions in 2019 may have had both slots as PCIE but the AMD boards only had one PCIE and the other SATA only. My had drive is working and not stalling my PC now after formatting. So would be nice to have it as a backup for non essential downloads. But maybe install a 2.5 SSD Sata drive in it's place and ignore the M.2 slot. The SSD drive should be much quicker than the HDD mechanical drive.

I might swap the boot PCIE card to the other M.2 slot to test it. Would answer my question.
