I recently bought a 2nd hand laptop (Acer Travelmate) and decided to install a fresh windows 11 install, after installing windows I checked for updates and downloaded all possible updates, after clicking restart it went black and acer logo pops up and that pesky "please wait while we install a system update" text pops below the acer logo and the system will shutoff and turn on again on a showing acer logo and that line on a loop. What can I do? is the system is bricked?

Your Travelmate model is not on the Acer approved list for Windows11 https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/windows/windows-11-compatibility.html which means no W11 Acer drivers and only W10 UEFI/BIOS. I recommend that you RESET this PC and roll back to W10. Forcing W11 on your laptop will not work, W11 updates is one of the problems you will be facing continuously, you can delay updates, but you cannot turn it off.

@LanceCarlo11 this message means that it is performing a BIOS update. Keep the charger plugged in during the update. If the loop still going, you might need another PC, download the BIOS file and extract the .fd file into a USB drive for a BIOS recovery.

  • It is for this reason that I do not find it interesting that windows update updating the bios. It installs all updates together and does not warn the user of the risk of updating the bios.

    I tried downloading this BIOS
    https://www.acer.com/ph-en/support/product-support/TMP249-G2-M/NX.VE6SP.142/downloads

and extracted the the file using 7z and all I can see is this

the drive is already formatted as FAT32 and I used the Fn+Esc(hold) and power on the device nothing happened.

@LanceCarlo11 copy each .fd file from V2 to VR into the USB. Plug that USB drive while the laptop is off. Hold FN + Esc and press the power button altogether. The power LED will start flashing and the fan ramping up.

Just some further advice and some assistance so that you can fix your laptop, as this just happened to one of my old laptops (note, I didn't get a bricked bios from a Microsoft Update) this old Aspire V3-571G it happened because, I haven't used this laptop for a while, its running Win-10 Pro and I did some windows updates and recharged the battery also, as after I finished that and the updates were finished and the laptop needed to be rebooted, I got the same “Please wait while we install a system update" so I allowed this message to run for 30min, as that is how long any long update should run and should be installed, afterwards you should shut the laptop down and reboot it, as in my case, this fixed the problem, it took about 30min to reset its updates but it rebooted and works perfectly again, so be aware of this also.

If you get this message and the bios was being updated with the dreaded Microsoft firmware/bios updates, and its bricked your laptop, you can either follow this laptops Crisis Disk Recovery Guide (see the PDF doc from this laptops SG that I've included below) as this is supposed to recover the bios of your laptop? So try it out. What I would do is get a technician that has the programing tools and can get the recovery bios so that he can reprogram the bios chip for your laptop or if that can't be done, the easiest is to buy a new TravelMate P249-G2-M programed version 1.40 bios chip and get a tech to resolder that new bios chip to your laptop, as that will work perfectly, they are available on eBay or Amazon. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
