GPU stops working after ~7 hours of working on Acer Aspire Nitro VN7-791G-57RE

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with my Acer Aspire Nitro VN7-791G-57RE. After about 7 hours since boot the GPU stops working, only integrated graphics works. When this happens the power LED also stops glowing. Because of the LED I am pretty sure this is a power or hardware issue.

Around the time this issue started I fixed the charging cable near the connector. Internal wire broke because of constant bending, so I cut the cord, reconnected the DC wires and wrapped it with tape. Could this be the reason? Not sure why it works fine for 7 hours though.

I got this laptop in 2014. Reinstalled the system several times since then, disassembled to clean up and change thermal compound several times. For about 8 years the battery just does not work, so I am using the laptop as a stationary PC.

I will appreciate any suggestion on how to fix this!

Thanks.

Why hasn't the battery worked for 8 years, this laptop was released in late 2014 so this laptop has had a working battery for only 1 year of its life and you never bothered to fix the battery problem since this laptop is new? What is wrong with the battery, doesn't it charge, as that could be part of the problem of this laptop, as also the power chip circuitries or the dedicated gpu is probably overheating and the heat turns the dedicated gpu off. The only fix for your laptop is for you to either swap the mainboard (btw an old mobo like this could be cheap) or take your laptop to a tech in your area so that they can analyze the many faults that your laptop could have, imo its best if you replace the mainboard and get a new battery first and then check if the power DC In port cable is working 100%, the charger/adaptor is working 100% also.

These are the replacement parts that you should be looking at:
