Yes, you can upgrade the Aspire 5750 laptops cpu to the i5-2540M only, don't upgrade to any 2nd Gen i7-xxxx cpu's as they were fitted only to the Aspire 5750G models with dedicated gpu and fitting these i7 cpu's will slow and overheat your laptop due to their higher cpu TDP. I've got the same Aspire 5750 laptop and I speak from personal experience as I've done extensive testing. I've upgraded this laptop considerably many years ago, my laptop came oem with the i5-2410M, a spinner 500GB HDD and 4GB DDR3-1333MHz ram and a Wi-Fi card with no Bluetooth.

The upgrades that I've done are the following: upgraded the cpu from my oem cpu the i5-2410M (which ios allot faster than your i3-2310M) to the i5-2540M which was the best and quickest cpu to upgrade this laptop to, believe me, as I've done the tests and the i5-2540M cpu is fater and overall, a better cpu in this laptop than the i7-2720QM cpu! I also upgraded the ram to 8GB at 2x 4GB DDR3-1600MHz and added the then 2.5" Samsung 850 EVO SSD but of course you can put todays latest model the 2.5" SSD which is the Samsung 970 EVO SATA III (btw, you can use the DVD slot with an addition of a caddy, as doing this will make the DVD space a slave drive slot, so that you can put the oem spinner HDD in there) and also changed this laptops Wi-Fi only card to a new Wi-Fi/BT card model Atheros AR5B97 Wi-Fi/BT card as all these upgrades makes this laptop 150% quicker and an excellent laptop which still operates on Win-10 Pro and its done so for many years and up until now.

Note: upgrading the cpu to the Intel 2nd Gen i7 type cpu's does not make this laptop quicker, I tried to upgrade this Aspire 5750 laptop to the i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz-3.3 GHz/L2-1.0MB/L3-6MB/45W TPD) and this cpu made the laptop slower as the i7-2720QM cpu demands more TDP power of 45W and runs hotter which reduces performance, so be aware of this as I tested the best i5 and i7 cpu's and the best performing cpu for this laptop is the excellent and very well-known performer the i5-2540M cpu, so buy this cpu and do all the upgrades above like the ram, HDD as your Aspire 5750s performance with all those upgrades will be 150% faster than what it is with the oem Acer specs and especially the i3-2310M cpu. Good luck and hope this helps you out and you follow the advise above.
