Hello, I would like to update the bios in my laptop, but I do not know how to do it correctly. Could someone help me? I'm also having a problem with high temperatures and I've read about undervolting using the intel extreme tuning utility. Will this treatment help me? What values to set? It's a model with i7 12700 and rtx3060

Intel introduced a new feature called Undervolt Protection. It allows manufacturers to block undervolting using Intel XTU and other software. This feature is deployed using BIOS updates and affects primarily 12th and 13th gen CPUs.

It may affect the system's stability even if a vendor decides to allow undervolting. As a result, some vendors may disable undervolting until they fix those issues.

So, which Cpu do you have?

You can download a brand-new version (2 weeks old) BIOS for your laptop here: https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_2.09_A_A.zip?acerid=638240396830386779&Step1=&Step2=&Step3=NITRO%20AN515-58&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6 To install the new version over your present BIOS:

    1. Open the folder where the file downloaded to, then right-click on the file name and select Extract All.
    2. Double-click the file application file that was extracted to begin the install.
    3. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the BIOS. Make sure you have an AC adapter connected.

On your temperature concerns, you can reduce the maximum CPU Power State in Advanced Power Plan settings when plugged-in to the adapter from 100% to 99% (or 95% if the CPU gets really hot).

The bios and GPU Firmware updates are a simple update that is done within windows and with the Nitro AN515-58 its last bios version is Dated: 2023/07/04 / Version: 2.09 / Titled: 1. Update DB on DC for GN20-S7 sku.

Firmware Update - If your AN515-58 has the Nvidia RTX3060 GPU ONLY (Note: don’t update this firmware if your laptop has any other Nvidia RTX30XX GPU as this firmware is NOT for your graphics chip) then this laptop has a Firmware updated that you should update to and its - Titled: Firmware Update VBIOS NVVDD EDPc setting change from 90A to 135A Geforce RTX 3060 VBIOS ver: 94.06.36.00.60 or 94.06.36.00.64 which you should also update.

Note and Be Very Careful: a user needs expertise to update a bios but especially a GPU firmware bios, as if the bios or firmware are updated incorrectly you will brick and damage the bios chip and GPU graphics bios chip also and you won't be able to use your laptop and the cost of fixing could be expensive or you might even need a mainboard replacement, so be very careful and look up the Acer guides on bios/firmware updates, as Acer warns users on the bios page with the following: "Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer product. Please proceed with caution"

Also, a bios update is only done to fix issues that it fixes, bios updates are not done like software updates and just to have the latest update version, so study all the bios update history because the last bios version installs all the previous bios fixes.

@StevenGen Hi, I have acer nitro 5 with rtx 3070 ti which had bios v2.05(not remeber properly).Tech support team made me to update the bios to v2.09 ,, after that i am feeling that power usage of rtx 3070ti is limited to 125w -130w.Before update it was using 150w properly, what should i do in that case?should i roll back to previous bios, thanks mate

Its unfortunate as these bios updates that Acer updates do not specify what they do, as the bios version 2.09 says "1. Update DB on DC for GN20-S7 sku" which could be a power adjustment, as and if you search the version 2.09 title "Update DB on DC for GN20-S7 sku" it means this:

"The meaning of Update DB on DC for GN20-S7 sku is a BIOS update for some Acer laptops that have the NVIDIA GeForce RTX Mobile GPU. DB stands for Display BIOS and DC stands for Display Controller. The update may improve the performance or compatibility of the GPU"

If your AN515-58 performs unsatisfactorily then send your new laptop to Acer support and get them to fix the bios, as doing a bios downgrade to version 2.05 may not be possible, so be very careful as downgrading a bios is not easy and some bios version can't be downgraded, don't force the bios downgrade as you can brick your laptop and make it unusable, as and if that happens, you will need a bios reprograming or even a bios chip replacement, which can be costly and will void your Acer warranty.
