My Extensa 4630 BIOS version is 1.17. There are two new updates version: 2.07 and 2.11 on the driver website.

Do I need to update these new BIOS versions?

Thanks.

    Hey!

Only if you are having issues and customer support tells you to!

I updated the BIOS because it was a common PC repair practice, but it actually made things worse by not allowing 16GB of RAM while everyone else has 16GB and works flawlessly with older BIOS versions.

My advice, don't update it unless it fixes an issue!

I also heard that you can only use the V. 1 on Windows 7 - and V.2 on Windows 8 installations. They said that 2.XX is for Windows 8 and you cannot go down to 1.XX. So assumingly they all work that way, you couldn't even install version 2 updates anyhow. It could be different for your model though!

Unless you are having issues, don't upgrade. Again, you are at version 1 - and version 2.XX is usually not allowed to upgrade when you are on a lower number like 1.XX.

I don't want to see you having to flashback a BIOS like myself! It is a pain! I cannot find the BIOS version I need that other people are getting 16GB of RAM working with.
