I want to turn on my Acer nitro five computer today to do some work, and the screen was black and would not turn on. I turned it off and then turned it on again, and the screen came on black with different colored, white and vertical lines.

what can I do to fix this?

This is the eDP cable for the AN515-54 laptop and the 144Hz refresher rate screen also for your information and if you need to change them:

The below list is all the types of screens that Acer fits to the AN515-54 laptop, the highlighted model numbers below are the only 144Hz refresher rate screens suitable for your Nitro AN515-54 laptop as its got a 40 pin video connector, as the rest are the AN515-54s 60Hz refresher rate screens with 30 pin video connectors and they won't fit. This is one of the 144Hz screens here: NV156FHM-N4K Replacement LCD Screens from $68.99

Note: The above connector can cause those screen lines if its data pins get damaged or shorted out (which is common and can happen all of a sudden) and will give you those screen images that you are getting.

I don't know which model Nitro laptop you have but judging by its 144Hz refresher rate its probably one of the newer ones like an AN515-5x, it would help if you told us the model number. Anyway, this problem could be from numerous sources like a faulty eDP cable/plug (plug at the screen or mainboard) or the actual screen or a faulty graphics driver. To eliminate a software issue, do a hard reset first, take the base back cover off, take the battery out and disconnect the bios battery and short its + & - pins at the mainboard plug with a paper clip, also take the ram out, leave the laptop disconnected like that for 15 min and reconnect everything back and reboot laptop, see if that fixes this screen problem? If it doesn't then its either an eDP cable/plug or your mainboard or the screen that have an issue that you need to take your laptop to either Acer in your area or an experienced technician that deals with laptops screens and has all the tools and can fix your laptop.
