Aspire 6930G graphics card and heatsink missing

Hello. Newbie here - but not new to the Aspire 6930G. I have two of them, both old but still impressive. One has the Intel processor and is complete. I sourced a new screen with some difficulty for this one and added some RAM and now its working well and in daily use. I do not use it for gaming - too old for playing games… :-)

The other one is lacking some parts. It has the AMD processor. What is missing are the following:

Graphics card, entire top (screen, hinges etc.) speakers, and the heatsink for the processor.

I got this assembly for the parts only but since the other one works so well I thought I would try and ressurrect the beast, even if I could work it through the HDMI or VGA port with external monitors or TV. However, for this apparently I would need a graphics card and this seems to be difficult to source. Everywhere I looked seems to be either out of stock or some other reason for it not being available. There are some available from China but to get it to this country from there would be a nightmare in itself.

Am I chasing rainbows or is there perhaps a dear soul who might venture some suggestions - or maybe even have some bits lying about?

Thanks for looking at this message

These are the GPUs that are listed in the Aspire 6930Gs SG if it could be of some help for you, search the web with the Acer part numbers and see how you make out.

    Thanks very much.

The graphic cards that may work in this machine are known but sourcing same would seem to be not so easy so my question is where to get them from.

Yes I know just thought that you didnt have the list of tehse gpu's. Anyway, search on the ali express as they seem to sell all the copied technology from everything and they seem to make everything and anything. You will be very lucky to get an original gpu from those days and like from the list above, but keep trying.

    Thanks very much.

I may opt to go with an external graphics card through HDMI which will also be less limited. I have to find a way to cool the AMD processor though as I remember those tend to run quite hot. I do have a heatsink and fan but that is for the Intel processor.

After all this project is actually just for fun. I realize that the older machines are fast becoming obsolete and fiddling with them if one hopes to get a functioning unit may prove difficult.

I also have a bunch of other Acer laptops most of which I managed to get to work - and the i3 is one of my workhorses. The others are much older but fun to play with.

Thanks for the interest. Have a great one!

Hello. So I was scratching around for something and happened upon a quaint little brown box. Opening it I found inside a brand new graphics card for the old 6930G which I ordered and received some centuries ago and clean forgot about. My age now showing disturbingly real….. ! The card fits perfectly but the heat sink I have does not. It also does not fit the CPU and the screw holes do not correspond. Somewhere I must have gotten it without carefully checking what I need… Now the hunt continues for the correct heat sink.
