I have an Acer Aspire A517-52 purchased March 2022. We have a BT Mesh system with the router in a downstairs room. In my husbands office directly above, speeds are generally 30 Mbps or above on computer and phones. In my office directly across a corridor, phone speeds are generally 30 Mbps but my Acer Aspire laptop is often only 4-8 Mbps. My laptop generally achieves good speeds in the room with the router and my husband's office. I have tested my laptop without anything plugged in and then with power supply, speakers, external screen and printer added back. It is slightly slower when the power supply is plugged in. The phones are consistently achieving high speeds throughout the area but the laptop is highly variable but most often low.

I don't play online games or stream videos, I use CCleaner daily.

I have adjusted the Power option but this seems to have made little difference. I have updated all drivers again this seems to have made little difference.

Any suggestions as to what is going on and how to improve my laptop speed please?

Just remember that your Aspire A517-52 laptop model comes with 3 different Wi-Fi/BT cards and their data throughput vary from models as follows, so check which card you have:

    1. Intel 9560 - Wifi: 2TX/2RX, transmission rate can up to 1533Mbps in 802.11ac.
    2. Intel 9462 - Wifi:1TX/1RX, transmission rate can up to 433Mbps in 802.11ac.
    3. Qualcomm Atheros QCNFA435 - Wifi:1TX/1RX, transmission rate can up to 150Mbps in 802.11n, and 433Mbps in 802.11ac

Wi-Fi Mesh can help boost your internet speed and extend the range of your network but in your case the router is not powerful enough, try to improve signal strength by placing the router at a central location or Invest in a Wi-Fi booster or buy a new more powerful router.
