Almost 2 year old laptop died, won’t charge, when plugged in no lights. Technician changed the battery, but still no luck. Think it’s the mother board, but don’t want to pay more to ship and fix. Any thoughts? Warranty coverage ended October 2022. So very disappointed.

We need to know just which Nitro model you have before we can even make good guesses… Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like ANxxx-xxx-xxxx. Usually if you get no lights with the charger plugged in, the charger has failed.

    It is a nitro 5 AN515-57-56FC

We took it to geek squad and ubreak I fix and neither could get it to turn on. We’ve changed the battery too and swapped out chargers. But nothing.

OK, for your AN515-57 model the power button is integrated into the keyboard. It's possible that isn't acting as it should, which would mean the motherboard never gets the signal to turn on. If it's not the keyboard then the technician is likely correct in that it is a motherboard problem. You, or they, should try removing and reseating the keyboard cable from the motherboard several times in order to make sure there's no corrosion affecting those contacts. Your system has the GN20-E3 NVIDIA chipset for the GTX 1650, so the motherboard looks like this:

F is the keyboard cable. Unfortunately we don't have access to the pinout on that cable, so there's no good way to actually test for proper function of the power key, other than trial and error. The keyboard itself is integrated into the top case so it's not easy to just swap out the keyboard in order to test. Also the motherboard is different for different SKUs on these models, so we can't even assume the keyboard connector is the same for models with a different GPU. I count more than 70 different motherboard versions in the FRU list… I would guess the keyboard cable pinout is fairly standard, but can't be sure.
