Black Screen when attempting to wake Acer Swift 5 from Sleep Mode

I have a Samsung external monitor into which I plug an HDMI cable from my Acer Swift 5 laptop.

No problems at all for first 2.5 years but then a few months ago, the Acer would black screen and become completely unresponsive - no matter how long I pressed the power button - when I attempted to wake it from Sleep Mode..

I websearched and found that I can reset the battery which I did. This does revive the laptop: the keyboard backlight goes on and off for about a minute, then it displays the Windows logon screen. But I want to avoid having to do this whenever I use the laptop, obviously; and I don't know if constant battery resets damages the battery at all.

I worked out that if I unplug the monitor before I put the laptop in sleep mode, then on waking it, wait for a few minutes until the fan noise stops and the Windows desktop looks normal (ie. nothing happening), then plug in the monitor, both monitor and laptop display no problem.

If I forget this procedure and wake the laptop and even allow the HDMI plug to even touch (ie. not plug in at all) the HDMI socket on the laptop before the wake-from-Sleep process is fully processed, the laptop screen goes black and is completely unresponsive and I have to reset the battery again.

I read in another post regarding another Acer model that the HDMI socket is for IN not OUT - is that the same for the Swift 5? But why did it work fine for 2.5 years then?

Any help gratefully received.

Reset the BIOS to factory defaults. How did you upgrade to Windows11; manual with a Clean install ISO+USB? or the recommended way with the Windows10 WAU app.? Are you on the latest W11 22H2 build 22621.1848? Check in Device manager if you see any "Problem Devices" or yellow exclamation marks, uninstall those. Uninstall your display drivers with DDU in Safe Mode and reboot, Windows11 will reinstall the drivers. Try another external monitor if the same thing happens. Get a new HDMI 2.1 cable.

If your power problems continues and you have to reset the battery each time it may well be hardware related and bringing the laptop to Acer Services in your country is the best solution.
