I2C HID device not working (Code 10 - A request for the HID descriptor failed) on Acer Nitro AN515

I've seen many cases of this problem, yet no solution has fixed this problem permanently.

I've had this problem twice before and it "fixed itself" after some time (I have no idea what made the device start working again). This time, after starting the laptop from sleep mode, the cursor disappeared and the device manager showed a yellow triangle by the I2C HID device with code 10. I tried turning it off and on and it worked once, but the next day the issue appeared again and this time nothing seems to fix the issue. I have also tried reinstalling the Intel IO Host Controller - A369, but it didn't bring any results.

This is the error message from Event Viewer:

"Device ACPI\SYNA7DB5\1 had a problem starting.

Driver Name: hidi2c.inf
Class Guid: {745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da}
Service: hidi2c
Lower Filters:
Upper Filters: mshidkmdf
Problem: 0xA
Problem Status: 0xC000009E"

Is there anything I can do?

  • Hello! What is the exact model of the computer? Example: AN515-55-5990. Have you tried uninstalling and deleting this driver through device manager?

    It's the AN515-54. Yes, I've tried that through the device manager and it didn't work.

    Try installing different versions of touchpad drivers. The driver you have installed are for a Synaptics Touchpad, is it possible you have Elan? Acer Support lists drivers for Elan (13.6.14.1) and Synaptics (19.0.25.10) for your laptop.

    Installing Elan drivers fixed the issue. It's weird because I've already tried installing both Synaptics and then Elan and that didn't do anything, but this time Elan worked.

    Thanks for your help!
