edited June 2023 in All-In-One PCs

I've just bought this all in one PC after a lot of thinking and reading reviews about Windows 11. This AiO was Windows 10 and that's why I chose this one. However, during setup, it says it will upgrade to Windows 11 which I don't want. I haven't gone any further. When I press Next will it give me an option NOT to upgrade and if not, how can I avoid the upgrade? Will it allow me to return to Windows 10 which is what I want.

This AIO Acer PC is designed for Win-11, using Win-10 will not be the best longterm option. Microsoft will be ending support for Win-10 in 2025 while Win-11 is the continuing OS for Microsoft.

What I suggest is that you do a Clean Install of Win-11 DO NOT JUST DO AN UPDATE thorough Windows Update, as a Clean Install is a far better and more complete installation of Win-11 and it will work far better. Also install the Intel Driver and Support software so that your AIO is up to date always with the latest Win-11 essential Intel drivers that are very critical to your AIO.

No, only in Pro you can block updates with GPedit, Windows10 will be phased out end 2025 so you will get these upgrades offers periodically. Click the link "stay on windows 10 for now" and it does not nag you. Just do not press the link "See if it is ready to install".
Here is a registry tweak to stop the upgrade. but careful with that, backup the registry first
How to Block Windows 11 with Registry Editor:
    Open the Start Menu.
Type regedit.exe and Run the Registry Editor.
    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate.
Set the Dword TargetReleaseVersion to 1. If the value does not exist, right-click on Windows Update, and select New > Dword (32-bit) Value.
Set the value of TargetReleaseVersionInfo to 21H1. If the value does not exist, right-click on Windows Update, and select New > String Value.
    Restart the PC.

This registry tweak may affect W10 feature updates like 22H2 upgrade and 22H2 CU updates as well.😐️

Thank you for the quick reply. When I read the spec thought it said Windows 10 which is what I'm using at work and I'm very familiar with it. I'll take your comments on board.

Yes you will get these naggings as Windows10 will be phased out in 2025. Click the link "stay on windows 10 for now" and it does not nag you. Just do not press the link "See if it is ready to install".

There is also a registry tweak, but backup your registry before editing anything.

This AIO will work better and will have allot newer drivers for Win-11 than Win-10 and it will be supported much longer under OS Win-11 than Win-10, so be aware of that, as Win-11 is a much better OS. Don't be fooled with the Win-10 BS as its not true. I'm using a Nitro gaming laptop that came the same with Win-10 Home and I upgraded it with a clean install to Win-11 Home and been running Win-11 since new (since last year August) and this laptop has always operated perfectly with every game and high-end software with Win-11.

I'd suggest doing the upgrade to Windows 11 as well, if having the start menu in the center of your task bar is an issue just tell W11 to move it to the left. :) I wouldn't do a clean install though, since that loses you all the Acer specific apps. Just do the upgrade and remove any apps you later find to be unused or a drag on system performance (like the antivirus trial that's likely installed).
