Freezing while loading anything on Aspire 5 a515-G57

Hi,

I just got an Acer Aspire 5 a515 with 16Gb of upgraded RAM (from 8Gb), i5-1240p CPU and RTX2050 GPU.

Its performance is great, but anytime I want to load something it freezes. For example, while using Ableton Live or big video editing apps, I have a great rendering speed and optimized CPU usage while multiprocessing at high quality, but anytime I click on a new tab or want to add a plug-in the app freezes for seconds and I don't know why.

I can even play games at the highest options, but once I want to save the game, or load a save, it would freeze. On the usual apps (not games) it mostly goes "NOT RESPONDING" for a few seconds.

I have installed all necessary drivers from the original website and some additional audio drivers. I also have the latest stable update of Windows 11 installed. It has 1T free SSD space, malware checked, and it does not have a lot of apps installed on it. It's also quite new.

It performs great through many aspects, it has never got overheated, it usually would not crash out after freezing and it would get back to its action, but it can even take minutes to go back to performing!

Can you please help me find out what's wrong with it or how I can troubleshoot this?

" I have installed all necessary drivers from the original website and some additional audio drivers. I also have the latest stable update of Windows 11 installed."

That line right there is worrying: There are no unstable updates in Windows11 22H2, what W11 version and build are you on, press the Windows key+r and type Winver, post a screen shot.

You should not install any drivers on a brand new W11 laptop, get rid of all your bloatware, Office365 trial copy, Avast, McAfee/Norton, battery monitors and whatever else you don't need and see running in Task Manager. Don't disable Defender, all Windows11 security options and protocol should be running and have green checkmarks, also when you expand the security features. Get your apps from the Microsoft Store and install major packages like Adobe after you made sure it is 100% compatible with your system, e-mail the vendors before downloading, don't experiment. Some examples of W10 programs that crash in W11 are Audacity, VLC Media Player and Spin It Again. there are many more apps that you should only install from the Microsoft Store.

Open Device Manager and check for yellow exclamation marks and Unknown Devices, also in Hidden devices, uninstall all those rogue drivers and reboot, W11 will reinstall the correct drivers for your system. After that run Storage Sense and scan your c:\ drive, click on the Temp. bin at the bottom and scan that, it may find 100s of GB redundant update files like OldDos, delete all that and trim (optimize) your drives.

Refresh your system image: Go online, check that your Internet is working and paste this line in the Command prompt opened as administrator: Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and press Enter. it should end successfully.

Then paste this line in the same Command Prompt window: SFC /scannow and press Enter, that will repair corrupted files, keep rerunning the SFC command till you see "No integrity violations"

Press the Windows key+R, make a screen copy and post. There are no unstable updates by Windows11 22H. You also should not install drivers on a brand-new W11 laptop, either let W11 do all installing of drivers or install apps from the MS Store. Open Device Manager and check for yellow exclamation marks and Unknown Devices (incl. Hidden devices) uninstall all those rogue drivers and reboot. Finally run these 2 commands in the command prompt opened as administrator after you go online and have checked that Internet is working OK:

Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and press Enter, should end successfully or rerun till OK

Next paste this in the same command prompt window: SFC /scannow that will repair corrupted files and should end with "No integrity violations", rerun till OK.

Finally run Storage Sense and after scanning click on the Temp bin icon at the bottom, it will find 100s GB old Windows10 update files like OldDos, delete all that. Trim your drives after that.

Have you looked at Task Manager to see what processes are being run and the memory used. You may have some unwanted virus checkers in the mix ??

I am guessing you actually have a Aspire A515-57G? Typically that type of error can be traced to disk access. Perhaps the drive is starting to have a problem?
