Hi

Got this computer form costco a few days ago.

The specs say the 2 type A ports are USB 3.2 gen 2 speed, but with an external SSD I am only getting usb 2.0 speeds. The ports are blue (which would actually indicate 3.2 gen 1 speed of 5 Gbps), but the logo next to them look like usb 2.0 logos. (no SS or SS 10 next to the trident)

Can anyone confirm if they get usb 3.2 gen 2 (superspeed 10) speed or are they limited to 480 Mbps like I am?

On the Type A ports of this laptop, my USB 3.2 Gen 2 devices link and operate at USB 3.2 Gen 1/5 Gbps/SuperSpeed

Dear Acer support guys thanks for pointing me to the service manual. How come you cant make the service manual publicly available? You guys should fix the product page for this laptop so that it says USB 3.2 Gen 1 not Gen 2.

I was able to get both USB-A ports working at SuperSpeed when I tested them again this evening. No clue why they were operating at UsB 2.0 speed last night. Also good to know that they are supposed to be 5 Gbps superspeed and not 10 Gbps

There is nothing wrong with the USB ports, check the format of that external SSD, is this a SATA drive or PCIe, M.2 NVMe drive and in what type of external case is that SSD mounted (USB 2.0, 3.0, 3.1-2 or 4). Other considerations are:

Change the file system for your SSD drive from FAT32 to NTFS (backup the data first as everything will be lost).

Optimize drives (Trim the external SSD).

In Device manager right click on the USB drive and in properties select "Better performance" (see picture).

Thank you Puraw. The slow speed these initially tested for seemed to be a one time thing the other evening though persistent at the time on multiple tests. I have tested several times since then and the speed has been as expected. The product page describes these as 10Gbps ports so Acer should fix the product page to reflect 5Gbps ports.
