In just the past 4–6 weeks, my 9-month-old Acer Nitro AN515-45 has started turning off the laptop display sometimes when I'm gaming if I touch the touchpad while my wrist is touching the wrist-rest part of the case. This doesn't happen every time I make contact, but it does happen often. I haven't been able to identify that it's happening with a specific set of keys being pressed when I'm touching the touchpad and case, but it is certainly possible only some particular keys plus contact makes this happen. And, since I'm usually pressing keys like crazy while gaming, the screen does come right back on, but it throws things out of whack for a couple of seconds while the game display shifts over to my external display when the primary shuts off, then right back to the laptop display after it comes back on.
I have tried disabling the touchpad (Fn+F5) when gaming, but this problem still occurs. Thinking the problem might be some kind of weird short happening when I bridge the case and the touchpad, I just now disassembled the laptop, removed the battery, and disconnected then reconnected all the connectors along the battery-side edge of the motherboard. I'll have to play more to see if that has alleviated the problem, but I decided to get on here and ask for help in case others have suggestions to help me track down the source of the problem.
Since getting the laptop, I have upgraded the memory from 8 Gig to 32 Gig, but a MemTest86+ indicates the DIMMs are good, so I suspect that isn't the cause. I have also installed a 4 TB SSD in the SATA drive bay. I don't know that these last two things matter, but I'm throwing the info in just in case that helps diagnose the problem. All this said, does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?
Thanks!
